Sometimes we think achieving lasting weight loss isn’t in the cards for us. We start with all the enthusiasm and motivation in the world, and then get discouraged when the scale doesn’t appear to be moving as we think it should or… when we feel the soreness from our first workout.
So what can you do to make sure you’re successful?
Before you take any physical exercise actions or commit to any particular diet, you need to convert your general intention to lose weight into a specific goal.
– Maybe you just want to fit back into the clothes you were wearing last year?
– Is there a specific weight you are trying to obtain?
– Are you interested in overall fitness and health?
You’ll also want to keep a weekly record of your weight loss. Write your weight in a journal so you can keep track of it. In the same book, track your diet. Make yourself accountable for what you eat each day by jotting down the foods you eat. When you know you’ll have to write it down, you won’t be as interested in having that unhealthy snack.
Preparation is key!
The need to eat while away from home is inevitable. Do not try to choose what you are going to eat AFTER you are already very hungry. Make sure you are ready for anything! Take some healthy things to eat or pack your lunch when you go to work or leave the house. Think of all the extra money you will have to spend on other things by skipping restaurant meals. You not only need to plan your weight loss goals, you also need to set up your environment for success.
Get rid of all the unhealthy food from your kitchen. You cannot eat food that you do not have, so be sure to keep only healthy foods in your pantry that will help you remain slim. The harder it is to eat unhealthy food, the less appealing it will be, and the less you will consume.
A weight loss plan that incorporates both diet and exercise is best.
Clear your schedule for a few hours a week to enjoy some fun workouts. If you just can’t seem to find the time to workout, try incorporating exercise into more enjoyable activities.
Do you enjoy spending time with your friends? Play some basketball with them! Is letting your hair down something that you enjoy doing? Sign up for some type of dancing lessons. Do you love nature? Go on a hike in the great outdoors or explore your local park.
Ask your friends if they will be your support system.
Having friends there to support you can be a great motivator, even though they can’t lose weight for you. Being responsible for regularly reporting your progress to someone can prevent you from giving up. Look to your friends or family for moral support when you feel down. A good friend will be able to give you the psychological support you need to stick to your weight loss plan.
So these tips for successful weight loss at home should definitely get you well on your way to a healthier, more fit you!
